SAN DIEGO – The third-ranked Foothills Christian Knights defeated Gulliver Prep, of Miami, 73-69, at the Holiday Classic at Torrey Pines High on Friday.
Yassine Gharram, of Foothills Christian, led all scorers with 22 points.
The Knights improved to 8-4 on the season, while the Raiders fell to 8-2.
Foothills Christian will face Cathedral Catholic (9-4) in a consolation-round game at the event on Saturday at 11 a.m.
The Knights and Dons entered the week ranked second and third, respectively, in the local media poll.
CHRISTIAN 72, BECKMAN 31 – In the Governors Division at the Holiday Classic, Vincent Warren, Jake Tawhiao, and Pat Roberts each had 12 points to pace the Patriots in the rout over Beckman, of Irvine.
The Patriots led 19-6 after the first quarter and stretched the lead to 34-14 at halftime.
The Pats didn’t let up there, holding the “other” Patriots to single digits in each of the last two periods, as well.
The game was played at St. Augustine High.
Christian, which entered the week ranked 14th in the local media poll, improved to 9-2 on the season.
The Patriots will face Aliso Niguel (10-5) on Saturday at 8:35 p.m., also at St. Augustine High.
HELIX 65 ESCONDIDO 61 – The Highlanders advanced to the semifinals of 34th Annual Holiday Hoops Classic at Mt. Carmel by defeating the Cougars.
Helix improved to 9-6 on the year, while the Cougars fell to 6-6.
Helix will face Carlsbad at 6:30 p.m. in the semifinals of the tournament.
EASTLAKE 79, MOUNT MIGUEL 55 – The Matadors fell to 0-4 on the season by falling to the Titans in a Montgomery Tournament game at Mount Miguel High.
The Titans improved to 8-5 overall.
Mount Miguel will face San Dieguito Academy on Saturday at noon.
