Patriots fall behind early, fall to Fernley

FERNLEY, Nev. (10-25-2019) – The Christian High Patriots were up for a long-distance drive this week, 560 miles to be exact, after a tough home loss the previous week to Morse, and now Christian High (5-4, 2-1 Eastern) will have a lot riding on the last game of the regular season.
First, the Patriots needed to take care of business on the long road trip to the sales tax-free state of Nevada.
Many of us forget these talented football Patriots have made quite the climb over the years, winning many key football contests to end up in Division II, and among quite a talented group in the Eastern League.
In Division 2, the Patriots dropped from No. 6 to No. 7 after being pummeled by Morse last week, 58-22.
As the Patriots sit in second place, Morse (5-4, 1-2 Eastern) was defeated soundly at the hands of the same squad, Mira
Mesa (3-6, 2-3), 28-6.
While the Tigers were busy being tamed, the Patriots didn’t fare much better as they lost their second straight at the hands of the Fernley Vaqueros (8-2), the No. 17-ranked school in the state of Nevada.
The visiting Patriots dug themselves a huge hole, down early 31-7, losing 45-30.
Christian fought hard to turn it around, adding more of a passing attack, which has not been as typical this season, as the last several games, the ground game has been so successful.
Patriots wide receiver TODD BEEZER had yet another outstanding performance, adding 10 catches on the evening to add to his already young and impressive resume.
GABE KRUG had yet another big night, however, one of the largest playmakers, CHRISTIAN SALACUP, was unable to join the team, as he had to take the ACT test.
The bottom line, whoever is victorious between La Jolla and Christian on Friday night, will be Eastern League Champs.
“This team was bigger than us and loaded with seniors,” said Patriots offensive coordinator Dave Beezer. “They were
solid, and for the first time all year, we threw the ball all over the yard.”
