The Highlanders added a safety when a punt snap went awry to take a 16-0 lead before the offense got on the field.

HELIX 65, EL CAPITAN 14
EastCountySports.com staff report
LA MESA – The top-ranked Helix Highlanders used an early morning locally televised pep rally and a Homecoming Night crowd to get motivated in clubbing visiting El Capitan, 65-14, on Friday night.
As if the Scotties didn’t need further prodding, they found new ways to score against the Vaqueros.
Helix took a 16-0 lead in the first quarter on points scored by the defense and special teams.
Helix blocked a punt by Sam Stewart and Marvin Locke recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown for a Highlander lead of 7-0.
John Carroll had a 33-yard interception return for a touchdown to stake the Highlanders to a 14-0 lead. Carroll had eight tackles, including two sacks.
Later in the contest, Helix got a kickoff return touchdown by Domonick Schoop, who picked up the ball off the ground and ran it back for the score.
Helix senior quarterback Kamryn Brown hooked up twice with Timothy Christopher for touchdown passes, including a 58-yarder.
El Capitan senior quarterback Wick Hauser passed for 161 yards and two touchdowns.
Sophomore Savigon Yokley (40 yards) and senior Donny Green (14 yards) caught the scores. Yokley had three receptions for 78 yards.
The scary news came when senior running back Elelyon Noa left the game in the second quarter with an ankle injury. The good news came on Saturday when it was reported that Noa had not suffered a fracture but will likely miss next week’s game.
Noa had an 11-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, the Scotties’ second play, as Helix led 23-0 after one quarter.
Senior kicker Elijah Laing was the Homecoming King.
