MOUNT MIGUEL 46, VALHALLA 28

On Friday Night at The Mount in Spring Valley, there was a very close match between the Mount Miguel Matadors and the Valhalla Norsemen. The Matadors ended up with the ‘W’, 46-28.
The Norsemen came out on their first drive and only needed two plays to score on the Matadors, who were trying to get back to .500.

Raymond Sanchez had a first-down run, and Hussain Bakir took the next run to the house 58 yards to score early against the Matadors.
The Matadors were fed up with the Norsemen running game, so quarterback J.D Laverdiere connected with wide receiver Jahiem Allen-Pompey for his first touchdown pass of the night. Laverdiere ended the night with 355 passing yards and accounted for seven touchdowns in the big win. Four of the scores were rushing touchdowns for the junior.
“I have been working on being more of a mobile quarterback, but today my line made it that much easier, making space and creating better scoring opportunities,” Laverdiere said following the victory.
Into the second quarter. Valhalla came out strong scoring again on their first drive with the help of Sanchez, until Mount Miguel came right back with a 45-yard TD pass connection for Laverdiere with Allen-Pompey for the second passing TD of the night for the Matadors.
Next, the running game came back to haunt the Matadors with Kegan Baker taking a 70-yard run to the house to make it 21-19 near the start of the third quarter. Baker had 20 carries for 197 yards.

The biggest break the Matadors had this Friday night was when Valhalla’s special teams had muffed a long snap and the punter accidentally put his knee down on its own 2-yard line while trying to recover. This put the Matadors in great scoring position.
It led to another rushing touchdown from the Matador quarterback for the first Matador lead of the game. A lead which the Norsemen would not take back during the rest of the game.
The Matador defense came out and started silencing the Valhalla offense.
The next drive from the Matadors was the most important touchdown, giving the Matadors the insurance they needed to secure the 46-28 win.
Allen-Pompey finished with 10 catches for 246 yards. He has 789 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns this season.
Laverdiere has 1,315 yards and 14 touchdowns on the campaign.
