CHULA VISTA – The Valhalla Norsemen ran into a team mirroring their recent successful winning surge on Friday night.
The defending Metro-South Bay League champion Hilltop Lancers improved to 4-0 by stopping visiting Valhalla, 27-13, handing the Norsemen their first loss of the season.
Valhalla senior Kegan Baker rushed 22 times for 106 yards, including a 43-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 7-all in the first quarter.
However, the Lancers led 14-7 at halftime and 27-7 in the fourth quarter before Norsemen quarterback Luke Pillsbury had a 9-yard score for the final margin.
Norse back Raymond Sanchez rushed seven times for 42 yards and also caught a 39-yard pass from Pillsbury.
Hilltop had 71 plays to Valhalla’s 48.
Baker has 574 yards and nine touchdowns this season.
Valhalla will face an interesting test next week when it meets Mount Miguel on the road in an evenly-rated matchup.
