EL CAJON (revised, 8-16-15) – Steele Canyon’s AVERY TUCK got an infield single off the leg of pitcher Austin Bergner, much to the delight of hometown crowd, although his West squad lost, 3-1, at the 2015 Perfect Game All-American Classic Sunday at Petco Park.
Tuck is considered one of the top high school baseball prospects who should tempt Major League Baseball organizations to look his way.
He looked sharp in batting practice on Sunday before the game (see video above) and earlier in the week he was named Baseball Prospectus Prospect of the year.
His stats were not glittering in his junior year, as he batted .286 with 3 home runs, 11 RBI and 4 stolen bases, but those scouts who recruit players for a living can see the future for the 6-foot-5, 195-pound senior-to-be.
Tuck and teammate Mickey Moniak, of La Costa Canyon High, were among those showcased in front of scouts from every organization and countless number of college scouts. Tuck later struck out in the contest.
No doubt Tuck, who has committed to San Diego State, has a promising future.
The country’s top 50-plus rising high school senior prospects gathered at the Marriott-San Diego Mission Valley for the “Welcome Dinner” for this year’s 13th annual Perfect Game All-American Classic on Thursday night.
At the event, Perfect Game Founder and President told the All-Americans that based on the numbers from the first 12 Classics, one out of every three of them seated in the room could expect to be a first-round pick in a future MLB First-Year Player Draft.
Following Ford’s remarks, seven awards recognizing high-level performances at June’s Perfect Game National Showcase were handed out, as Tuck, was awarded the Top Power Hitter award at the showcase.
He displayed his award earlier in the week on twitter:
