Sultans now 4-0 in Valley after win

EL CAJON – At Santana High, the girls varsity basketball team is playing for the now, but also have a bright future.

Freshman BELLA TERRY had 14 points, 12 rebounds, four steals and two blocked shots, and senior AALIYAH STONE had 10 points, 12 boards, four assists and three steals, leading the Sultans to a 47-26 Grossmont Valley League victory over host Valhalla on Friday night.

Santana improved to 4-0 in league play, one-game ahead of second-place Steele Canyon (3-1)

“Wow we are excited, 4-0,” Terry said. “Tonight, we really played as a team. We continuously made good passes and got the ball to the open player. We all have been putting in so much hard work at practices to be the best we can be, and it’s really showing on the court.”

Junior LAKAILA AGUININGOC-DAVID had eight points for the Sultans, while junior teammate ISIS TAYLOR had four points, seven assists and seven rebounds, as part of the all-around team effort.

“I couldn’t be happier with how far we have come and the great chemistry on the team that helps us day in and day out,” Terry said.

Junior BRIANNA JERIG had six points and eight rebounds for Santana.

“I wouldn’t have been able to play the way I did tonight without the great ball movement my teammates put forth on the court, Jerig said. “I’m so happy with how far we’ve all come. Every night, we put all we have out on the court. I’m so excited for the rest of league the potential we have.”

The Sultans led by just one point after the first period, but a scoring rush had them up by six at halftime.S

Santana upped the advatage to 17 points after three periods.
