OCEANSIDE (1-5-2019) – State-ranked San Bernardino Valley College raced through three straight opponents to capture the Clete Adelman Classic at MiraCosta College, capped by Friday’s rather pedestrian 80-66 conquest of L.A. Pierce College in the title game at Crosswoods Gymnasium.
The fourth-ranked Wolverines (11-5) utilized a 51-point second half to extend their 5-point halftime lead into the 20s.
All-tournament selection Roman Silva led SBVC with 19 points, while teammate Nathan Pendarvis registered 13 points and 10 rebounds.
L.A. Pierce (11-7), which was attempting to sweep three straight Pacific Coast Athletic Conference opponents in order to win the championship, received 18 points each from Christian Guillory and Anthony McIntyre.
Third — San Diego City 83, Miramar 68: The Knights (9-8) rolled to a 21-point lead against their PCAC rivals in handing the suddenly slumping Jets (once 9-2, now 10-7) their fifth setback in six contests.
City controlled the paint throughout, grabbing a season-best 52 rebounds while limiting shooting of the Jets,
Miramar shot a respective 9-for-20 on triples (45.0 percent), but inside the arc, they were a puzzling 10-for-43 (23.2 percent), including an astounding 3-for-18 in the first half.

Fifth – MiraCosta 87, Antelope Valley 83: The tournament host Spartans mounted a 10-point halftime lead, have it all away, yet rallied back to cling onto the consolation title of the Clete Adelman Classic.
Down 48-38, the Marauders finally moved back in front on a pair of Stephon Bell foul shots with 2:33 remaining and an 81-80 advantage. but MiraCosta responded OCEANSIDE with a 7-2 run to close the contest to escape.
Xavier Allison immediately answered with a 3-ball, part of his season-high 23 points, on a pass from Dirk Helaire with 2:18 left for the lead.
MiraCosta then made 4-of-6 foul shots down the stretch thanks to the defense, as Helaire stole a pass and reserve forward Thomas Donati blocked a shot.
Allison also finished with 11 assists, equaling the most by a PCAC player all season. In addition, Marcus Foster and Devyian Roberson each poured in 18 points, while had 9 points and 11 rebounds for MiraCosta (9-8).
For the Marauders (7-11), five players registered double figures in scoring, led by Stephon Bell (18), Jalen Riley(15), and Julian Payton (12),
Elsewhere: Copper Mountain, on its way home from a rare Arizona road trip by a California-based community college, won at Imperial Valley, 89-72.
In late contests, Victor Valley (8-8) embarrassed host San Diego Mesa, 78-68, in a nonconference contest. Mesa fell to 3-15.
Meanwhile, Cuyamaca registered its third win by outlasting visiting Santa Ana, 70-67, in another non-conference offering.
