2018 EAST COUNTY PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL
EL CAPITAN 61, CARLSBAD 50
EastCountySports.com staff report
LAKESIDE – MaxPreps/WBCA National High School Regional Player of the Week MACKENZIE CURTIS had 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead the El Capitan Vaqueros to a 61-50 win over visiting Carlsbad on Friday night.
But it wasn’t all on the shoulders on the sophomore, who was recognized for her strong statistical performance of late, although she was dominant.
El Capitan also got 10 points from sophomore center EMMA DRISKILL, who returned to the floor.
“We had a good team win tonight because everybody did their job,” El Capitan head coach DARIN CURTIS said. “It was nice having Emma back, she is what our team is all about, the commitment to each other.
“Her and Stephanie had the job of stopping their best player (holding her to half her season scoring average).”
Juniors JORDAN GRANDY and DEVON BULLOCK also added 10 points for the Vaqueros. For Bullock, it was a career-high.
“These girls are willing to do their job for the good of the team,” Curtis said.
El Capitan (5-4) led by one point at the end of the first quarter
Carlsbad (5-3) trailed, however, 30-19, at halftime.
El Capitan will face Monte Vista in Spring Valley next Tuesday.
