CHULA VISTA – The Helix Highlanders opened up their annual appearance at the Hilltop Tournament with a 56-37 win over the host Lancers here on Friday night.
Junior MAURICE HOLMES led the Highlanders with 23 points, while junior teammate JAHARI HILL added 13 points.
Helix (2-2) will meet undefeated Westview (5-0) on Saturday at 4 p.m. at the 42nd renewal of the event.
MOUNT MIGUEL 77, MIRA MESA 55 – The Matadors ran their record to 3-0 with a decisive victory over the visiting Marauders in Spring Valley on Friday night.
The Matadors will make the short drive to play the Morse Tigers in a neighboorhood game on Saturday at 5 p.m.
FOOTHILLS CHRISTIAN 77, ORANGE LUTHERAN 58 – The Knights upset OLu at the Battlezone in Corona.
JAREN NAFARETTE led all scorers with 23 points for Foothills Christian, while teammates YASSINE GHARRAM and DJ CARTER-HOLLINGER both added 18 points.
Both Gharram and Carter-Hollinger had 12 points in the first half, as the Knights led 38-31 at halftime.
The Knights led 53-43 at the end of three quarters.
Lancers’ star Makur Maker did not play in the contest.
PACIFIC RIDGE 53, EL CAPITAN 43 – The Vaqueros dropped a non-league contest to the host Firebirds on Friday in Carlsbad.
El Capitan fell to 3-3.
CALVIN CHRISTIAN 49, LIBERTY CHARTER 39 – The Lions fell to the Crusaders after leading 31-27 after three quarters.
Junior JAMES ZUNIGA and sophomore JONAH BELPREZ both scored 10 points for Liberty Charter (1-3).
