Fullerton slammed with football probation for using ineligible players

BURBANK (10-09-2018) – The other shoe dropped for 2016 and 2017 state and national community college football champion Fullerton College on Tuesday.

Southern California Football Association Commissioner Jim Sartoris announced in an e-mail to SCFA member colleges’ athletic departments that the Hornets, winners of 26 straight games on the field has been put on a two-year probation due to the use of ineligible players.

All 2017 regular-season football-game wins in which identified ineligible players participated in have been vacated. It appears those games will go into the books as forfeits.

Fullerton’s 2017 National Division Southern League championship has also been vacated.

Fullerton’s football program has been suspended from 2018 post-season competition.

And 2018 wins in which identified ineligible players participate have been forfeited.

Additionally, the California Community College Athletic Association has announced that Fullerton’s 2017 state community college championship has been vacated.

Sartoris’ e-mail said that Fullerton self-reported the infractions, but it is unknown who the ineligible players are and which games they participated in.

Sartoris also said that Fullerton College, although the college self-reported the violations may appeal the sanctions.

So it remains unclear which of the Hornets’ wins are vacated / forfeited.

Actions taken by the SCFA and CCCAA were retroactively applied as of Oct. 3 of this year.

Palomar was the most recent team to play Fullerton, losing to the Hornets this past Saturday evening in Escondido in the two teams’ Central League opener. The Comets apparently will pick up a forfeit win from their 2017 loss to Fullerton.

Southwestern lost to the Hornets in a non-conference game on Sept. 22.
