EL CAJON (10-09-15) — After suffering three consecutive losses the Grossmont College Griffins find themselves a longshot for the Southern California playoffs and better suited for a post-season bowl game.
That is if they can regain the winning track.
The Griffins (2-3, 0-2 National Southern League), will begin the second half of the season on Saturday (Oct. 10) against perennial power Mt. San Antonio College at Roth-Mashin Field at 1 p.m. in a National Conference game. The Mounties are also 2-3 and have split two National Central League contests.
An interesting twist … the Griffins are producing 32.6 points per game – same number as Mt. SAC.
The slumping Griffins have scored only 31 points in their last two games.
THOMAS McDONALD heads up the Grossmont running game with 340 yards and 4 touchdowns. He provides the thunder while NEHIMIAH BROWN (19-177, 4 TDs) delivers the lightning.
Grossmont’s aerial game has been divided by MICHAEL CARRILLO (57 of 110, 635 yards, 3 TDs) and TOMMY PISTONE (42-84, 479 yards, 4 TDs).
The Griffins have had 17 receivers catch passes over the course of the season. SERGIO BAILEY is the pace-setter with 20 catches, 272 yds, 3 TDs).
Griffin Graffiti — Linebacker NICK GALATIS was selected the National Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the third time in five games. The 6-foot, 225-pound sophomore has 57 tackles and 4 sacks . . . Mount SAC leads this all-time series 16-3, including six straight wins . . . Last time Grossmont toppled the Mounties was 21-17 in 2005, the year the Griffins won the national championship… An Omen?
