SAN DIEGO – The Christian High Patriots dropped a 7-6 Western League decision to the host Madison Warhawks in eight innings on Wednesday.
The Patriots scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning to erase Madison’s 2-0 lead.
Senior GARRET NIELSEN tied the game at 2-2 with a line single to center, scoring sophomore CONNOR OHTON (single) and senior JAKOB BECK (double).
Sophomore ISAIAH OWENS (single) drove in a run in the sixth and later scored.
Freshman TRENT NIELSEN (walk) scored in the frame.
Four Patriot errors led to four unearned runs against Christian senior starter LUKE RYNKOFS, who struck out six in 5 1/3 innings of work.
Ohton tied the game in the top of the seventh with a two-out steal of home.
“Luke Rynkofs pitched well and gave us a chance to win but our younger players are really struggling once they are in the spotlight and are needed to make a big play or drive in a run,” Christian head coach MIKE MITCHELL said. “We battled hard today but made too many mistakes to beat a good Madison team with David Lantz pitching for them.”
Madison (4-5, Western, 14-11) handed Christian (3-8 Western, 11-15) its seventh-straight defeat.
