Falcons ground Pats’ pennant plans

EL CAJON – The Christian Patriots may feel like they let an opportunity get away Wednesday against the visiting Scripps Ranch Falcons.

The Patriots managed just three hits against Falcon pitching but failed to capitalize on seven walks in a 5-1 Western League loss.

The setback leveled Christian High’s league mark at 3-3, falling two games behind first-place Cathedral Catholic (5-1) in the loss column.

It was Scripps Ranch’s first league win in three circuit starts.

The Falcons scored a pair of runs in both the second and third innings.

Trailing 5-0 in the fourth, the Patriots had the makings of a big inning after three-straight walks to open the frame before an out was recorded.

Senior JAKOB BECK was hit by a pitch with one out to force in Christian’s first run, but that would be all the Pats would muster from the rally. Beck would reach three times in the game via hit by pitch.

Junior OWEN EASLEY had two of the Patriots three safeties.

Christian High (11-10) will have a chance to return the favor on Friday at Scripps Ranch (10-10) and will really need to do so to keep their serious pennant hopes afloat.

VALHALLA 30, EL CAJON VALLEY 3 (4 innings) – Valhalla junior AUSTIN SCRIBNER drove in eight runs and senior teammate JACOB BARBA had five hits and four RBI as the visiting Norsemen won the Grossmont Valley League game.

Valhalla sophomore JOSEPH INGRASSIA drove in three runs and scored four times.

For the moment, the Norsemen are in first place in the Grossmont Valley League at 6-1 (10-11 overall), one-half game ahead of Monte Vista and Steele Canyon.

The Braves visit Valhalla on Thursday at 4, while the Monarchs and Cougars will battle each other in a big Valley contest.
