GROSSMONT VALLEY LEAGUE
VALHALLA 6, EL CAPITAN 1
The Norsemen take an early lead in the bottom of the second inning and never look back as they hold the Vaqueros offensively.
Valhalla in the bottom of the second took advantage of their opportunities as Victoria Villegas was hit by a pitch, Aubrey Baker (RUN) into run, Delaney Stettler (2-2) followed with a base hit, Zoe Glenn into run, Baker would come into score on a Vaqueros miscue to make it 1-0, the Norsemen added their second run on a groundout by Rylee McMillan (RBI) which allowed Glenn to score.
The Vaqueros in the top of the fourth finally broke through as Hannah Davis (1-3, R) and Alexa Williams (2-3) each hit back-to-back singles. A couple batters later Davis would come into score when Allyson Von Yokes (1-3, RBI) laced a single to center which cut the Valhalla lead 2-1.
However, the slim lead for Valhalla would grow in the bottom of the fifth starting with back-to-back singles by Lexi Schmehr (1-3, R) and Jade Hill (2-4, R). With runners on first and second Rachel Shellstrom (1-4, R, RBI) drove in Schmehr with a single and Kennedy Labshere (1-4, R, 2 RBI, 2B) doubled to score both Hill and Shellstrom to push the lead 5-1. Valhalla would tack on another run to round out their scoring.
Valhalla over the final two innings would allow only one hit by Williams and the defense did the rest as they retired the Vaqueros in order in the top of the seventh to end the game.
Taking the loss for the Vaqueros was Kylie Mead who over four innings pitched gave up 6 runs of which 4 were earned on 6 hits while walking 1 and striking out 1. Alexa Williams came in and threw two innings in relief giving up 3 hits and striking out 1.
For Valhalla, Stettler went the distance for the 7-inning complete game victory allowing 1 run which was earned on 5 hits while walking 0 and striking out 4.
