EL CAJON (3-12-2018) – The Hilltop Tournament has been kind to the Granite Hills Eagles thus far, minus the shutout loss to the Poway Titans, 6-0, last Thursday afternoon.
Granite Hills may be the sleeper of the year, it is early, but this is a team that appears to be playing with heart and looking to make a statement.
Granite senior BRADLEY HARRIS, had himself a day on the mound and swinging the stick. For the second game of the early season, Harris has been able to lead his squad to victory.
“Today I was seeing the ball well and we are all having a lot of fun out there,” Harris said.
Harris had five RBI on two hits, to assist the Eagles in the win over a tough Santana squad.
Harris began his stellar offensive day early with two Eagles aboard in the bottom of the first, as he went yard, scoring all three, the Eagles quickly took the lead 3-0, heading into the top of the second inning.
The Santana Sultans were not about to lay down.
With a 1-1 count, Santana junior BRANDON GLOWACKI returned the favor and hit one to left out of the yard, making it 3-1 Granite. Granite starting pitcher, BRADLEY HARRIS after giving the home run settled in, two
Granite starting pitcher Harris, after giving the home run, settled in, getting two groundouts and a strikeout looking to minimize the Sultan damage, and it was 3-1 heading into the bottom of the second.
In the bottom of the second, Santana senior starting pitcher JOSH OEDEWALDT was looking good, getting a strikeout and a pop out.
With two outs, Oedewaldt walked a pair, then Eagle TK Parker got a base hit to shortstop, as BRIAN SMITH advanced to third and junior SEAN McGREW advanced to second.
TREVOR HAZLEHURST walked, scoring Smith, and moving McGrew and Parker to second and third.
Once again Granite Hills’ Harris spanked one into center for a double, scoring Parker and sending Hazelhurst to third.
Unfortunately for Oedewaldt, having one of those days, entered relief pitcher, Glowacki.
Granite’s JAKE FENN flied out to right to end the rough second inning for the Sultans, and it was 6-1 Eagles.
Harris got three-up-and-three-down for Granite, as the score remained 6-1, headed to the bottom of the third.
In the bottom of the third, Granite scored two more to go up, 8-1, as the Sultans made a push with one in the fourth and two more in the sixth. Santana makes a push, however Granite Hills grabs the win, 8-4 over the Sultans.

“I tried to keep Santana’s offense off-balance, because they are a great hitting team,” Harris said.
Granite Hills (2-1) took care of a really fantastic Santana baseball team, according to Granite Hills
skipper James Davis.
The Santana Sultans, now 1-2 will next face the Poway Titans that shut out the Eagles two games ago.
Granite will face La Costa Canyon (3-0) at Carlsbad at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
“Fordham came in and did a great job for us on the mound today to close it out,” Davis said.
