CHATSWORTH – Well, look at the bright side for the Foothills Christian Knights, which lost their CIF State Open Division quarterfinal against host Sierra Canyon, 88-62, on Friday night.
They got to play basketball in front of Kim Kardashian.
That’s right, the Kardashians were keeping up with Cassius Stanley and the Trailblazers, who advanced to face defending Open Division state champ Bishop Montgomery in the semifinals by downing FCHS pretty much from start-to-finish.
Stanley, known for his high-flying acrobatic dunking, had 25 points, including two highlight-reel jams.
Sierra Canyon jumped out to a 10-7 lead, then stretched the margin to 16-9 and later 20-14 at the end of the first quarter.
Foothills junior guard JAREN NAFARRETE had a crazy bank shot to make the last two buckets of the first quarter for Foothills Christian.
The Trailblazers led 52-34 with 3:45 left in the third quarter.
Stanley banked a buzzer-beater at the end of the third for a 63-40 advantage.
Junior DERRICK CARTER-HOLLINGER led the Knights with 18 points, while Nafarrete contributed 13.
Sophomore JALAL O’KEITH had a nice showing in his minutes for the Knights, finishing with 12 points.
Sophomore YASSINE GHARRAM had 10 points for FCHS.
Guard Scottie Pippen Jr., of Sierra Canyon, drew a pair of early fouls limiting his playing time in the first quarter.
The Knights finished 26-7.
Terren Frank and KJ Martin Jr. each had 21 for Sierra Canyon, which had lost to Cathedral Catholic in 2016, and to St. Augustine last year in the state playoffs
Foothills Christian’s only lead was 4-2 at the beginning of the game.
