EL CAJON (3-1-18) – In an unfortunate twist on the eve of Foothills Christian’s 10th CIF championship game over the past 12 seasons and also unrelated to the scandal that rocked USC’s Men’s Basketball program as some have questioned, EastCountySports.com has learned that leading scorer and reigning CIF Player of The Year TAESHON CHERRY has been expelled from Foothills Christian High School effective as of the end of the school day on Thursday.
Following a night in which Foothills Christian defeated Mater Dei Catholic for the second time this season as they had previously won a 79-73 contest in the Torrey Pines tournament back in December, Foothills was dealt a tough blow to their 2017-2018 season.
When EastCountySports.com tried to reach out to school officials for comment, they would only offer this.
“Taeshon had serious violations of the team and school behavior policies. For more information please contact the family.”
Early Thursday evening, Cherry posted the following on Twitter:

Foothills Christian owns wins over both Fairfax and Westchester, who will play for the LA City Section Championship. Those wins could factor highly in State playoff seeding. Though the San Diego Section has usually only been guaranteed a single seed in the State Open Division, two teams have traditionally been given the go ahead.
If Foothills Christian can manage what would now likely be seen as an upset victory over Mission Bay on Friday night (Mar. 2nd, 2018) at SDSU, the Knights could have the possibility of securing a home playoff game in the state’s Open Division bracket.
With Cherry no longer in the mix for the Knights, the road ahead looks much rockier. Junior Jaren Nafarrete and Derrick Carter-Hollinger will have to lead a team now down its top scorer at 22.2 points per game and rebounder at 11.9 per game.
