IMPERIAL VALLEY (01-19-2018) – The 2018 Grossmont College Griffins have been underestimated since the beginning of the season.

They have only been beaten horribly once, however, that same team only beat the Griffs by just 5 on Wednesday.

Now, a 60-minute bus ride to the Imperial Valley, where you can recall in the late 80’s, early 90’s, IVC was one of the toughest teams in the desert to beat, now, in 2018, not that tough.

Or so we thought, as a 2-15 team against a hungry Griffin team, that played just 48 hours earlier to the No. 2 ranked team in the state in San Diego City at the G-House, and lost by only 5, a couple less fouls and made a few more free throws and we might might be talking real big things for Grossmont.

All the details computers consider, including being on a bus for so long, and that could be a determining factor in how you play against a team out in the desert at their house, as opposed to a 10-minute car ride to your home facility, not just the fact that Imperial Valley has won only two games, let us also compute the crowd.

Grossmont, ranked No. 36 in the state, are now 13-7 overall and 2-1 in the PCCS following the 89-78 win over the Arabs.

The Griffins were expected to handle the IVC team, however the Griffins were down at the half 42-41.

“Our guys had a great start to the second half on both ends we scored and made key stops when needed,” said Griffins head coach DOUG WEBER.

Grossmont’s RONALD BLAIN had 25 points, BRYCE PARSONS had 18, JOSH MORAN 15, and DAVID
WHEELER, 12 points.

The Griffins had solid play off the bench, and overall, it was a great road win.

“They are much better than their record indicates,” Parsons said. “Defensively we struggled in the first half and gave a couple open threes, but we made adjustments as we do, and turned it around in the second half to get the win.”

Grossmont (13-7, 2-1) will host Cuyamaca (0-17, 0- 3) in the district rivalry game 6 pm Wednesday, the 24th.
