Cougars fall in furious finish at Francis Parker

FRANCIS PARKER 52, STEELE CANYON 44 – Steele Canyon turned up the scoring in the final minutes against Francis Parker on Tuesday night but came up short in a non-league loss at Linda Vista.

Senior ELIZABETH BOTT scored 15 points, had four rebounds and two assists. It was one of the Steele Canyon star’s best scoring performances of her career.

Bott had six points in the fourth quarter, as the Cougars tallied 19 points in the final stanza but trailed 34-25 after three quarters. Bott was 7-of-9 from the foul line.

The Cougs were close early, as the score was tied 12-all after one quarter.

Freshman MAHKAYLAH CLINE, of Steele Canyon, had 10 points, including six in the fourth.

“We got into foul trouble late,” Steele Canyon coach PETER RUIZ said. “We can’t do that with good teams.

“We battled to the end and came up short.”

“We got two days to get ready for a tough El Cap team Friday night at Steele Canyon,” Ruiz said. “It’s going to be a good one.”

The game is at Steele Canyon and begins and 5:30 p.m. The contest should be very closely-rated.

El Capitan is already 1-0 in the Grossmont Valley League, while the game is the opener for Steele Canyon.

 

HIGH TECH CHULA VISTA 48, LIBERTY CHARTER 28 – The Lions were upset at home by the now 4-17 Bruins and fell to 0-2 in the Frontier League.

Liberty Charter (8-4) will face Preuss UCSD (3-0, 9-8) on Thur. at 6 p.m.
