GRANITE HILLS 66, SAN PASQUAL 39
EastCountySports.com staff report
EL CAJON – The early part of the New Year and the latter part of last year have been really kind to the Granite Hills Eagles as they rolled the San Pasqual Golden Eagles in a Santana New Year’s Classic contest, extending their winning streak to five games.
Granite who came into the contest ranked No. 11 in Division II really was able to show who the better squad was against the No. 4 Golden Eagles (4-10) of Division IV. The Eagles now have won their tenth victory of the season to push their record to 10-3 and look to be a formidable foe come league play.
It would seem that nobody is really talking it up about a Granite Hills team that is literally flying under the radar.
But first things first the Eagles behind the 8 points by XSAVIER SMITH in the first quarter got things rolling as they scored 17 points. The offense really fired up in the second quarter as Granite scored 24 points which included 4 three-pointers and also 10 points by senior RAY CUERO.
It was pretty much a balanced scoring night for Granite Hills as four Eagles scored in double-digits led by MCKAY ROBERTS with 18 which included 4 3-pointers, Xsavier Smith who scored 16, Cuero who nailed a couple three-pointers while scoring 14 points and MOSES SMITH who chipped in 10 points.
“The boys had great energy from the start,” said Granite head coach DAN DUFFY. “Ray Cuero had the best game of his basketball career, played with great intensity.”
Next up for the Eagles is a home date with No. 5 in Division II the Westview Wolverines (8-8) on Tuesday, January 9th at 7 pm.
