SPRING VALLEY (12-2- 2017) – Monte Vista came into its non-conference game 3-0 to face Escondido Adventist Academy on Saturday.
The Monarchs have definitely started building a Monarchy after defeating Granite Hills, 64-61, in a close one, then knocked off the Golden Eagles of San Pasqual, 76-66, and finally destroying San Diego Academy 72-53 at their home tournament.
Monte Vista is starting to receive some real respect after the varsity football team just won the Division 4 Championship game against undefeated San Diego High, along with the boys basketball squad doing a fantastic job, taking care of winning a game at a time.
Monte Vista head coach Mike Tully and his talented group should be applauded going undefeated thus far.
The Monarchs once again took care of business on their end with another impressive win, 58-43, over Escondido Adventist on Saturday.
DERRICK WILEY played great defense and gave good effort off the bench with an impressive 11 points and 10 rebounds.
DEONDRE McHALE had 9 rebounds and 7 assists. This young man is the real deal and will be scouted heavily.
Monte Vista’s defense was key as they were down 19-9 after the first quarter and then 31-28 at intermission.
The Monarchs, after Tully gave a word of encouragement in the locker room, had a huge impact as the Monarchs out-scored the Escondido Adventist Academy, 30-12, in the 2nd half.
“The bench play from SAHBIR WATSON and Wiley was key,” said Tully. “JAIDEN DAWN had a phenomenal defensive game.”
Monte Vista (4-0) will face the Ramona Bulldogs (3-1) on Tuesday December 5th at 7 pm at Ramona.
CHRISTIAN 85, WEST HILLS 71 – The Patriots of Christian High took on tourney host West Hills on Saturday at the Horsman Autom0tive event.
The Patriots jumped out to fast start powered behind two early 3-point baskets by junior sniper ISAIAH ROBINSON and 8 points from crafty senior NASHOM CARTER to open up a ten point first quarter lead 24-14 against the Wolf Pack.
The game would never escape the Patriots grip as Carter and Robinson would continue their hot shooting late into the 4th quarter with Robinson (12 points, 3 reb, 3 stls) burying a pair of deep corner 3-pointers while Carter sliced and diced the Wolf Pack Defense on his way to a 30-point, 7 rebound, 6 assist night with no turnovers.
JACKSON LARSEN hauled in another 8 rebounds to go with 7 points and a monster flush midway through the first quarter to open the gates to the Patriots running away with this one.
The Pats are 2-0 but will be heavily tested next week by a young, well-coached San Ysidro Team on Tuesday, Dec. 5, No. 2 Vista on Wednesday followed by No. 7 Mater Dei Catholic to close out the Wolf Pack-Horsman Automotive Tournament at West Hills High School.
HELIX 67, LA JOLLA 45 – At the Hilltop tournament, the La Jolla Vikings came into this game 1-0), as they beat Rancho Buena Vista, 61-42. Helix came into the contest at 1-1.
Helix has done well without skipper JOHN SINGER so far, but he has been missed.
Singer is one of the most vibrant, sophisticated, winning coaches in the league.
He is passionate on the court, squeezing talent out of every player, from every roster he’s ever assembled.
However, coach BRENNAN CASSADY has been great.
The Scotties were led by sophomore MAURICE HOLMES ( 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 steals) and AMARI GREEN (16 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists.
Helix’s BRADLEY DUNN had 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists, while JAVON DAVIS made 8 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.
The Highlanders’ JAYLEN HINSON got into early foul trouble, but finished with 8 points and 4 rebounds.
“The bench gave us valuable minutes, giving my regulars a break from the night before (a triple overtime game),” Brennan said.
Helix (2-1) defeated the Vikings of La Jolla and Eastlake, as their opening win of the season, their while only blemish a 73-71 loss to Otay Ranch .
Helix will play again on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 6 pm against Canyon Crest Academy (1-1) at the Hilltop Invitational.
FOOTHILLS CHRISTIAN 75, SANTA CLARITA CHRISTIAN 61 – Foothills Christian won for the second-straight day at the BattleZone in Corona.
TAESHON CHERRY scored 23 points for FCHS, while D.J. CARTER-HOLLINGER added 18.

Knights junior JAREN NAFARRETE added 16 points.
Foothills Christian’s DAVE DIXON scored 10 points, while sophomore YASSINE GHARRAM added 8.
Former Knight JORDAN STARR, now a senior with the Cardinals, had seven points in the contest.
