SPRING VALLEY – The Monte Vista Monarchs beat visiting San Diego Academy 72-53 on Thursday, but something was missing for the Monarchs.

“Our energy wasn’t where it needed to be,” Monte Vista coach MIKE TULLY said. “It was lacking for most of the game. We need to continue to grow as a team.”

Still, Monte Vista looked sharp enough by the second quarter, scoring 24 points in the second stanza.

DEONDRE MCAYLE led Monte Vista with 21 points, while JAIDEN DAWN added 12 points for the Monarchs.

The aptly-named Jordans – JORDAN STEVEN and JORDAN BRAMER – both scored 11 points for Monte Vista.

 

CHINO HILLS 92, FOOTHILLS CHRISTIAN 74 – Top-ranked Foothills Christian has had a rough time at the BattleZone in Corona.

On Thursday, the Knights lost their third-straight at the high-profile tournament, falling to regional rival Chino Hills.

Foothills senior TEASHON CHERRY, who turned an ankle in the Knights’ previous contest, was injured again.

This time, a cut above his eye, kept him on the bench for much of the first half. FCHS trailed 49-27 at intermission.

DERRICK CARTER-HOLLINGER led Foothills Christian with 25 points.

Foothills Christian will have one final chance to get a win in the BattleZone Tournament at Rancho Verde on Friday.

 

HIGH TECH HIGH SD 63, SANTANA 61 – T.C. SIMMONS had 18 points, NICK BERHALTER contributed 11 points and ZACH MILLER added 10 points, but the Sultans were edged by a highly-respected Storm team.

High Tech SD led 29-24 at halftime, but the Sultans had a 9-0 run in the second half to close to within 56-55 late.

The Sultans will host Victory Christian Academy on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.

 

LIBERTY CHARTER 66, CALVARY CHRISTIAN 21 – Lions seniors GABE GRIMM (22 points) and CLINTON FULK, who had three three-pointers, combined for 43 points at Liberty Charter won in its season-opener at home.

DAVID MILLER added eight points for Liberty Charter, which faces Calvin Christian on the road today at 4.

 

PATRICK HENRY 84, VALHALLA 55 – The Norsemen trailed by 5 at the half but could not withstand the Patriots’ 3rd quarter push in a loss at the Mount Miguel Tournament in a game played on Wednesday.

The Norsemen were lead by RAMZI SULTAN, who scored a team-hight 19 points, Ty Schimke’s 16 and freshmen Owen Dirkes 14 points.

TY SCHMIKE added 16 points for Valhalla, while freshman OWEN DIRKES contributed 14 points.

The Norsemen will travel to face San Diego next Wednesday for a game at 6 p.m. in the Baron/Matador Classic.

The Cavers edged Kearny on Thursday night at home in a Baron/Matador Classic game.
