Bethesda scores late penalty kick to beat Hawks

SANTA ANA – After San Diego Christian’s Alex Saliba scored the late equalizer, Bethesda was awarded a penalky-kick with less than five mintues remaining in the game and the Flames capitalized defeating the Hawks, 4-3, Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 5-3 overall. Bethesda improves to 3-4-1.
Pedro Henrique started the scoring in the 14th minute to give SDC the early 1-0 lead. An own goal in the 28th minute gave Bethesda their first tally of the game.
In the 36th minute, Borja Suarez broke the tie with his fourth goal of the year.
The Flames had a response, scoring four minutes later just before halftime to tie the game a 2-2.
The Hawks outshot the Flames 8-5 in the first half. Ryan Huerta tallied just one save in the first 45 minutes.
In the 71st minute, Bethesda took their first lead of the game as Matheus Campos gave the Flames the 3-2 lead.
Saliba added the tying goal in the 83rd minute before the PK in the 86th minute gave the Flames the lead and the win.
SDC will welcome Westmont College on Wednesday to kick off GSAC play. Game is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. start.
