SPRING VALLEY (11-28-17) – There was a full house for the Matador Classic game hosted by the Matadors with 200-plus kids in attendance, courtesy of Lady Matadors’ head coach ROBBIE SANDOVAL, as tickets were given to the Lemon Grove Academy’s 5th and 6th graders, who had a great time witnessing an 87-21 blowout of the visiting Brawley Wildcats Wednesday afternoon.

“The Brawley girls showed great poise and sportsmanship, although they were overmatched,” said Sandoval.

The Matadors were a scoring machine right out of the gate as they could not be stopped.

“The kids just played hard, had great focus from start to finish, and maintained great rhythm.” stated Sandoval.

Mount Miguel led by a huge margin at intermission, 53-6. The Matador talent was too much for the
Brawley (0-1).

“These girls know what we expect as coaches as many of them end up becoming 3-year starters,” Sandoval said.

Mount Miguel did most of their scoring in the first half, however, 30 points in the first quarter followed by 23 points in the second quarter were plenty to destroy the Lady Wildcats.

The Lady Matadors finished off the Wildcats, scoring 21 in the third quarter and 13 in the fourth to finish the team off in a contest in which the Matadors led the whole game.

When questioned about who the locker room leader was on and off the court, Mount Miguel Sandoval took quite a long pause.

“With only two games into the season, it would have to be (senior forward) CAMARA DOUGLAS,” Sandoval said.

Douglas put in 10 FGs, was 1-of-3 on three-pointers,  and 4 of 4 from the line for 27 points.

Mount Miguel (2-0- 0) will face off against Westview at the Westview High School Tournament on Wednesday.

Westview will be playing its season opener.
