SAN DIEGO – The Crawford Colts continued their undefeated run Friday afternoon stopping the visiting El Cajon Valley Braves in a game played at Hoover High’s Breitbard Stadium Friday afternoon.
The Colts have played home games elsewhere until their home field is ready in October. Now, these road warriors are 4-0.
The contest was played close to expectations early as the teams traded field position in the first quarter.
El Cajon Valley stuffed a run from punt formation, then MASON TILEIA later stopped a fourth-down rushing attempt to keep the hot Colts at bay.
Once Crawford drove into the red zone late in the first quarter, El Cajon Valley junior KEVIN TY stepped in front of a pass in front of the goal line and returned it 28 yards to get the Braves out of danger.
Moments later, however, Braves’ star MAQUEL GARNER was injured, and was helped off the field.
Although he returned later in the second quarter, he was hobbled throughout and had to come off the field favoring the injury, which appeared to be to his knee.
Early in the second quarter, El Cajon Valley recovered a Crawford fumble at the Colts’ 19, but couldn’t come away with any points following a pair of tackles for losses by the defense.
MICHAEL MALONE had a second-quarter sack for the Braves, but the Colts would score on the next play.
Crawford’s Ali Musa scored the first of his three touchdowns in the second quarter, hauling in a 26-yard reception for a 7-0 lead.
The Braves had a miscue on their next punt, which the Colts capitalized into a TD.
Nico Perry used the wide side for a long sweep and a 32-yard rushing score for a 14-0 advantage.
Musa had his second touchdown catch in the back left corner of the end zone with 2:46 left before halftime.
After the Colts’ stopped a Braves’ fourth-down rush, the Colts got it down to the 9 inside the final minute.
Musa caught a 9-yard slant for the Colts’ fourth score of the period.
Quarterback Shawn Balala, who predicted a 20-point win earlier in the week, threw for all three scores to Musa.
The Colts added a touchdown in the second half for the final margin.
