Former Griffin Bailey on prestigious Biletnikoff list
YPSILANTI, Mich. — Eastern Michigan University senior SERGIO BAILEY II has been named to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List, presented to the most outstanding receiver in college football, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club (TQC) Foundation, Inc. announced, Tuesday, July 18.
Bailey, a standout receiver at Grossmont College, is one of six Mid-American Conference receivers named to the 45-man watch list. The San Diego native out of Olympian High enters the season as the top returning pass catcher from a season ago when he reeled in 60 receptions for 868 yards and seven touchdowns on his way to Third Team All-MAC honors. His seven scores ranked ninth in the MAC and 68th in the nation, while his yardage was also ninth in the conference and 63rd in the country. Additionally, the 868 yards were the most by an Eagle receiver since the 2008 season.
The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the outstanding receiver in college football. Any player, regardless of position (wide receiver, tight end, slot back, and running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the award. As such, the Biletnikoff Award recognizes the outstanding receiver, not merely the outstanding wide receiver. The award recipient is selected by the highly distinguished Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee, a group of prominent college football journalists, commentators, and former receivers. Receivers are periodically added to the watch list as their season performances dictate. Actual, not potential, performance is the basis for inclusion on the Biletnikoff Award Watch List.
The Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, Inc., will announce the 10 Biletnikoff Award semifinalists on Nov. 13, following the vote by the members of the Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee. Likewise, the three finalists will be declared, following another vote, on Nov. 21. The 2017 Biletnikoff Award winner will be presented live on Dec. 7, on The Home Depot College Football Awards Show to be broadcast 7-9 p.m. (EST) on ESPN.
