CIF DIVISION I PLAYOFFS
PLAY-IN GAME
(10) West Hills 8, (7) La Costa Canyon 7: The Wolf Pack score a run late to come out on top of the back and forth affair with the Mavericks to claim the play in round of the CIF SAN DIEGO DIV I playoffs.
West Hills who came into the game with great momentum looked to knock off the higher seeded Mavericks and in the top of the first they were able to strike first.
Leadoff hitter SIERRA SCHLICHTING (2-4, 2 R) laced a single, moved up on the fielders choice by MELISSA CASTILLO (RUN) and would score a couple batters later on a fly out by ASHLEIGH HARTWIG (1-3, R, 2 RBI) to make it 1-0.
However the early lead would be eliminated by the Mavericks as they were able to tag Dobyns for four runs in the bottom of the first to take a 4-1 lead. They would push across another run in the bottom of the second inning to extend the lead to 5-1.
Now trailing the Wolf Pack knew it was do or die time and that they had the ability to comeback. Again leading off in the top of the third inning Schlichting singled, Castillo reached on an error, Dobyns followed with a smash double that scored Schlichting to make it 5-1, STAR GAYLORD (1-1, R) came into run, ALEX GUAY (2-3, R, RBI, HR) singled and would steal second base, Hartwig followed with a single that scored a run and CARLY BURSCH (2-3, RBI) reached on an error that scored a run. Scoring runs for the Pack were Castillo, Dobyns, HALEY VALLES (RUN), and Hartwig. West Hills had now retaken the lead 6-5.
West Hills tacked on another run in the top of the fourth inning to extend their lead to 7-5 thanks to a solo bomb by Guay. The Mavericks wouldn’t go away as they pushed across a couple of runs to tie the score 7-7 in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Both teams would hold each other until the top of the seventh inning when the bats for the Pack took advantage of what was given to them. Things started with a single by Bursch, BROOKE STEAVENSON (RUN) into run, ALYSSA BUBAR advanced Steavenson to second with a sacrifice, Gaylord who came into hit followed with a single. Steavenson would eventually come around to score the go ahead run to give the Pack a 8-7 lead.
Now it was up to Dobyns to make sure the lead stood as she took the circle for the bottom of the seventh inning. She was able to retire the first batter on a groundout to short for the first out, the second batter on a 2-1 count grounded to third for the second out of the inning. The third batter of the inning hit a ground ball to first for the final out and give West Hills the road victory.
On the day Dobyns tossed 7 innings, giving up 7 runs on 9 hits, walked 5 and striking out 1 in the victory.

PLAY-IN GAME
(7) Del Norte 10, (10) Valhalla 0: The Norsemen looked to pull off the road upset but unfortunately the Night Hawks quieted the bats of Valhalla to knock them out of the playoffs.
The Night Hawks in the bottom of the second would take a 3-0 lead as they hit a 3-run homerun which would give them the momentum.
Valhalla had an opportunity to put some runs on the board in the top of the third with two outs as SAMMY GREEN reached on an error and KENNEDY LABSHERE followed with a single but the next batter would be retired on a ground ball to end the threat and the inning.
Del Norte would round out their scoring in the bottom of the fourth inning with another run and the fifth inning with six runs to make it 10-0 and end the game.
The only other hit on the day for Valhalla was by DELANEY STETTLER who went 1-2 on the day.
LILY METSCH took the loss for the Norsemen as she tossed 4 innings, giving up 7 runs. Stettler came in relief and went 2/3 of an inning giving up 3 runs.
CIF DIVISION III PLAYOFFS
PLAY-IN GAME
(11) Our Lady of Peace 7, (6) Helix 1: The Pilots hold their own as they limited the Highlanders to the early run to knock them out of the playoffs.
Helix came into the contest off the big win over the Vaqueros to claim a share of the Grossmont Valley League crown and looked to continue that momentum.
Things looked good for them as they scored a run in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead.
However the Pilots figured things out and scored three runs in the top of the third to lead 3-1, they would score another in the top of the fifth to lead 4-1 and round out their scoring in the top of the seventh with three runs to make it 7-1.
