SAN DIEGO – University of Nevada freshman Dillan Shrum made the most of his homecoming series Saturday night, smashing a go-ahead two-run home run in the top of the 11th inning, lifting the Wolf Pack to a 3-1 win over San Diego State at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
Shrum, from Granite Hills High, knocked a 1-1 pitch over the wall in right-center for his first collegiate home run to help Nevada take the second game of the three-game series, which concludes Sunday.
After going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in his return on Friday night, Shrum responded and got the Wolf Pack on the board with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning on Saturday, giving the Wolf Pack a 1-0 lead.
Shrum, a first team all-East County selection in 2016, is hitting .220 during his debut season in Reno, having started in 12 of the team’s 32 games so far.
Shrum has made the most of his hits, however, driving in eight runs this season.
