IMPERIAL BEACH (3-28-17) — Monte Vista squeezed out a 4-3 walk-off victory with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 7th inning on a one-out double by junior DIEGO SANDOVAL in Monday’s (Mar. 27) Bill Dickens/City/Metro Tournament game.
Monte Vista took a 1-0 lead in the 1st frame as KRYSTIAN CAMACHO singled for the first of his three singles in the inning. DAVID GARCIA singled to right to score Camacho.
The Monarchs extended their advantage in the 3rd inning as FRANCISCO GUTIERREZ singled to right and Camacho reached base on an error as did Garcia, but Gutierrez was out at home running. Sandoval was hit be a pitch and ABRAHAM SANCHEZ singled in Camacho for the run in the 3rd.
In the 7th inning Camacho singled on a line drive to right, Garcia reached on an error and Sandoval doubled to right, scoring Camacho and Garcia.
IVAN PLAZOLA pitched six innings for the Monarchs and was relieved by JUSTIN SCHWEIZER in the final frame. The offensive support was there as Plazola picked up his second win of the season.
Sandoval was 1-for-3 with 2 RBI to pace the Monarchs and also had a double.
The Monarchs improved their record to 6-3.
