ROCKLIN – The San Diego Christian Hawks were able to join the William Jessup University Warriors in Sunday worship before taking the third game of a three-game weekend set to win the series, 2-1, as the Hawks won for the ninth time in their last 12 outings.
The teams split a doubleheader on Saturday before SDC won the Sunday solo game, 9-0.
In Saturday’s opener, WJU took a 9-5 decision to end the Hawks’ four-game winning streak before, San Diego Christian bounced back in the second game to win, 4-1, in a shortened seven-inning contest.
In the win, AUSTIN YEOMAN hit a solo home run and JOSHUA SIDLEY drove home a pair on a single in the fifth inning to snap a 1-all tie.
Senior BEN PARKER threw 5 2/3 innings for the win, while junior JEREMIAH WILEY completed the final 1 1/3 innings for the save.
BROCK MOSIER had two hits and an RBI for San Diego Christian.
On Sunday, former Helix Highlander MARK YOUNG turned in his best start of the season, going eight innings and striking out 11, while allowing just two hits and a walk for his first win in five decisions.
Young won six games in 2016 for the Hawks.
The Hawks scored two in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by BROOKS FAGES, then BOBBY MEAD added an RBI single.
STEVEN PICO added an RBI double in the seventh, then the Hawks put away the Warriors with a six-run eighth, which started on a solo home run by VAHN BOZOIAN.
The shot capped a powerful weeked for the former USC Trojan Bozoian, as he had a three home run game in the series opener, a 9-5 win for the Warriors.
Bozoian’s three-run homer gave the Hawks a 3-1 lead. He added solo shots in the sixth and eighth, but William Jessup scored four in the bottom of the third and four in the bottom of the seventh to break open a 5-4 Warrior lead.
Next up for SDC (7-11, 12-14) is a three-game series at The Master’s University (8-10, 17-17) in Santa Clarita with a 3 p.m. game on Friday then a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
