CHULA VISTA (3-21-17) — Monte Vista hammered out a 3-0 first inning lead at Mater Dei Catholic, as DAVID GARCIA delivered a 2-run homer in the opening frame of Monday’s (Mar. 20) Bill Dickens/City/Metro Tournament.
The Monarchs expanded their lead to 6-0 after four frames over the Crusaders.
Mater Dei scored once in 5th and twice in the 6th to leave the final score 6-3 in favor of the the sudden sluggers from Spring Valley.
ANDREW GONZALES was 1-for-3 for Monte Vista. He had a double and 3 RBI.
The Monarchs improved to 5-1.
IVAN PLAZOLA picked up his second win as he toiled 5 2/3 innings for the Monarchs.
FOOTHILLS CHRISTIAN 17, CALVIN CHRISTIAN 1 (3 inn.) – It took Foothills Christian three innings to clobber host Calvin Christian on Monday (Mar. 20) in the first round of the Crusader Baseball Classic in North County.
The Knights scored 17 runs to go along with their 13 hits and no errors. Nine Knights contributed to the offensive assault.
JALANI BROWN scored on a passed ball and JUSTIN EICHER doubled in 2 to make it 3-0 in the 1stinning.
In the 2nd inning JOSH GATES supplied the key blow – a bases-loaded triple. Eicher doubled in a run and BRADLEY BROWN singled in another.
In the 3rd inning Foothills Christian erupted for eight runs. The key blow in the frame was a 3-run double by CHRIS STALLARD. Gates brought in three more runs on an error.
Gates was 2-for-3 with 4 RBI and 3 runs scored.
Eicher was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, and Bradley Brown was 3-for-3 with an RBI.
Stallard (2-0) handled the pitching, allowing one hit and no runs.
TRISTIN BARLING gave up one run in one inning on the hill as Foothills Christian improved their record to 6-1.
