CHULA VISTA — Otay Ranch earned a 28-0 non league victory over visiting Mount Miguel Friday night, as the Matadors dropped a non league contest.
The Matadors played without senior two-way star Antoine Hamilton, who practiced during the first part of the week, but was unable to participate after suffering a back injury the previous week against Poway.
Senior Anthony Gilmore stepped in, managing 50 yards on 14 carries against the tough Otay defense.
Otay’s Oscar Limon completed 11-of-21 passes for 213 yards and four TDs, while Samuel Stephens. carried 22 times for 106 yards, and the Mustangs (2-1) had a 13-0 lead at the half.
On the initial possession of the game, the Mustangs had a 10-play, 44-yard drive as Limon completed a pass to Faufano Autele from 4 yards out with 8:10 left in the first quarter.
Mount Miguel’s defense appeared to get some momentum when junior linebacker CAMERON HANSEN had a huge hit on an Otay Ranch back at the 45-yard line, which forced a fumble. On the scene for the recovery was senior Michael Jones.
The Matadors’ Johnny Lee, a senior, hauled in a 22-yard pass from junior quarterback Benny Valadez to get the Matadors to the 13, but Mount Miguel failed to convert.
On the Mustangs’ last drive of the half, the Mustangs had a 12-play, 86-yard drive that ended in a TD as tight end Ennovy Halton caught his first of two TDs on a 9-yard score with :48 left in the half. It was 20-0 after three.
“The ‘out-physicaled’ us on both sides of the ball,” Mount Miguel coach Shaun McDade said. “We got inside the 20 twice in the first half, but couldn’t come away with anything.”
