EL CAJON (3-19-17) — Eastlake hammered three home runs to knock out the Helix Highlanders, 9-0, in a battle of top-ranked teams in Saturday’s (Mar. 18) championship game of the Aztec-Foothiller Tournament at Grossmont High School.
No matter which poll you follow, both the Titans and the Highlanders are somewhere in the mix.
That’s what made Saturday’s tilt such an anticipated early-season matchup, as Eastlake came in 4-1 and Helix came in 5-0.
The Titans broke it open with five in the third.
ERICK SMELKO, MATTHEW RICHARDSON and WES BABBITT had a hit apiece for the Highlanders.
A bright spot on the hill for Helix was sophomore GRIFFIN ZAMORA, who allowed a homer, but otherwise struck out four over three innings.
For Eastlake, which garnered three home runs, Leonard Jones hit a bomb in the 3rd inning, Bryan Reyes homered in the 4th and Ben Ramirez went deep in the 7th.
