BARONA – The San Diego Christian Hawks slugged their way to 13 runs over the first four innings in a 17-2 blowout of visiting Bethesda University in the first game of a three-game set at Barona Field on Friday afternoon.
The teams will be back at it with a doubleheader on Saturday at Barona.
Junior CADEAN BARNES, of Upland, drove in five runs on three hits, while freshman BROCK MOSIER, out of Valhalla, and senior BOBBY SCHUMAN added home runs.
Opening walks to STEVEN PICO and JUSTIN HAWKINS started off the Hawks in the bottom of the first inning.
VAHAN BOZOIAN loaded the bases with a single to center, which was followed by a long double by Barnes off the fence for 2 runs.
JOSH SIDLEY’s RBI ground out gave San Diego Christian (7-13) an early 3-0 lead.
The 5-run third inning for SDC started with a one-out walk to Hawkins and a walk to Bozoian set the table for Barnes to drive in another run to give SDC a 4-1 lead. Josh Sidley loaded the bases with a single to right field. One out later,

In the Hawks fourth, a walk to Pico was followed by a bloop single by Hawkins.
Barnes drove in his fourth and fifth runs with a double, then later, Schuman blasted his first homer of the year to score Sidley and build a 13-2 lead.
MARK YOUNG (1-4) pitched the first 6 innings for his first win of the season. He scattered just 4 hits and gave up 2 runs, though one was unearned.
LEE SOTO and MICHAEL HORTON finished off the last three innings with shutout support.
Bethesda falls to 13-8 on the year.
Mosier lined a home run to right-center in the fifth inning for a 14-2 Hawk lead.
In the sixth, a two-out double by Schuman ignited a rally.singled to put runners at the corners.
Wilson singled to put runners at the corners, then JORDAN EADS lined a double to center field to clear the bases for 2 RBIs. BOBBY MEAD doubled to right center scored Eads and finish the scoring in the 17-2 game.
