CHULA VISTA (3-9-17) — The Christian Patriots continue to use a heavy bat as they blasted Mater Dei 9-0 on Wednesday (Mar. 8) in an Aztec-Foothiller Tournament in South Bay.

It was the second 9-run margin of victory in a row for the Patriots, as they defeated San Ysidro 12-3 last Saturday.

JUSTIN LEDGERWOOD slashed a 2-run double in the 3rd inning to make it 4-0 in favor of the Patriots.

BRAD JEREMIAH blasted a 2-run home run in the 6th inning to turn the game into a rout.

Seven Patriots banged out hits against two Mater Dei pitchers.

The Patriots stole 4 bases led by Ledgerwood, CHASE WEHSENER, ZACH HOGUIESSON and ETHAN CONTRERAS, who also had an RBI.

JOE MARKOWICZ pitched six innings, allowed 2 hits, no runs, no earned runs, walked 3 and struck out 5.

LUKE RYNKOFS pitched one perfect shutout inning.

Christian will play at Eastlake Friday (Mar. 10) at 3 p.m.

WEST HILLS 4, LA JOLLA COUNTRY DAY 2 – NOAH QUINTANA pitched 4 shutout innings for West Hills, allowing one hit and striking out 3 to earn his first win for West Hills in Wednesday’s (Mar. 8) Aztec-Foothiller Tournament.

JONATHAN MAAT came on in relief for 2 1/3 innings, and BRENDAN SHERWIN entered in the bottom of the 6th with the tying run on second base and logged 2 strikeouts to end the rally and get his first varsity save.

West Hills struggled offensively, in fact all of the clutch hitting was by DYLAN CRAFT, who slashed an RBI single in the first inning and then hammered a triple with the bases loaded in the third.

“I had a good approach at the plate, feeing confident and knowing what I can do,” said Craft. “Both times, I needed to go the right side, which I was able to do.”

Following consecutive one-out base hits by JASON VILLASANA and TOMAS GAGLIANO, a bunt single, loaded the bases.

Craft followed with his smash to right field which may have been lost in the bright sky with the sun setting. All three runners scored for a 4-0 lead.

Quintana left after retiring  15 consecutive hitters, claiming his second victory of the season.
