Serra grabs last-second win from Matadors

SAN DIEGO (2-5-17) — The Mount Miguel Matadors suffered another hard knock to the chops in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic against Serra at Mira Mesa High on Saturday (Feb. 4), suffering a shocking last-second 53-52 loss to Serra.
“We led the whole way until the score was tied at 52-52,” said Matadors coach ROBBIE SANDOVAL. “We had an opportunity to get a rebound with 4 seconds left but dropped the ball out of bounds.”
With 1.9 seconds remaining, the Matadors fouled a Conquistador player. She made the second of two free throws to put Serra up 53-52 and win the game.
Despite the loss, SATERA BATES put together another sterling game of 29 points, 6 rebounds, an assist and a block.
CAMARA DOUGLAS rolled a double-double of 10 points and 17 rebounds with 2 blocks, 2 steals and an assist.
