NATIONAL CITY (1-5-17) — Granite Hills and Francis Parker went head-to-head the entire game in Wednesday’s (Jan. 4) Sweetwater New Year’s Tournament action, but the Lancers prevailed 41-40 over the Eagles when the chips were down.
“It was an exciting game if you were a spectator,” said Granite Hills coach CURTIS NORWOOD. “If you were a coach, it was a little different.”
“With 2.5 seconds remaining Francis Parker had the lead 41-39 and (Granite Hills) had the ball at quarter court,” recalled Norwood. “With .3 seconds left I called a time out and set up a play. Kani missed a shot but was fouled. She made the first one but the second one rolled off the rim.”
“Kani played very well tonight,” the coach added. “She was the floor general, the catalyst.”
“Turnovers and missed layups were the difference in the game. It was a good experience to play a tight one,” Norwood said. “We played our best game.”
CHASE ROBLES hit a trey when the game was tied at 39-all in the fourth quarter, and ANYANG AGOTH also popped in a triple for the Eagles.
Granite Hills will next play Mission Bay at 6 p.m. on Thursday (Jan. 5) at Sweetwater.
Granite Hills: Kani Kubari 12, Shanice Lacy 9, Chase Robles 7, Anyang Agoth 6, Shelby Ripberger 6.
