EL CAJON (12-21-16) — In a battle of Top 10 pre-season teams, the Foothills Christian Knights defeated the Torrey Pines Falcons in a very entertaining 74-63 game at Grossmont High School as part of the Grossmont Winter Tournament on Tuesday (Dec. 20).
JAYLEN HANDS, a transfer at the beginning of the year from Balboa Prep, scored a game-high 27 points on 11-of-18 (2-of-7 from behind the arc) from the field.
Only six players played for the Knights (6-1) in the contest. Also joining the double-digit club was KALE BALDADO (14), TJ LOWERY (14) and JORDAN VAN OMMERING (11).
The Knights jumped out early on the Falcons (7-1) in the first quarter 24-11. The rest of the game was very even as the two clubs matched each other in the second (16) and third (18) quarters. The fourth quarter saw TPHS outscore FCHS by only two points to make it a little closer.
Foothills Christian will be back on the court Thursday (Dec. 22) when they face the Mission Hills Grizzlies at 4:30 p.m. at Grossmont High’s New Gym.
Foothills Christian: Hands 27 pts, 3 reb., 6 ast, 1 blk; Baldado 14 pts, 5 reb., 3 ast, 3 stls; TJ Lowrey 14 pts, 4 reb., 1 blk; Van Ommering 11 pts, 3 reb., 3 ast, 2 stls; Nafarrete 5 pts, 3 reb., 2 ast, 2 stls; K. Lowrey 3 pts.
