CYPRESS (12-4-16) – The Grossmont College Women’s basketball team dropped their sixth game of the season on Saturday (Dec. 3) to Santa Monica at the Lady Charger Classic 83-78 in Cypress.
KAMREE HARRISON (Mount Miguel) led the Griffins (1-6) for the second consecutive day in a reserve role. Harrison played 24 minutes and racked up 17 points along with grabbing six rebounds.
KHIYA MOHAMED (Imperial) racked up her first career double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds.
JUSTINE GARDE (Granite Hills) and COURTNEY BRANCH (Patrick Henry) rounded out the quintet of Griffins in double figures in scoring.
Grossmont jumped out to a 17-15 lead at the end of one period of play. The lead expanded in the second quarter up to 44-39. After three quarters, the Griffins were sitting on a comfortable 58-49 lead.
The problem for the Griffins is that the game is 40 minutes long, not 30.
Santa Monica (5-5) outscored the Green and Gold by 14 points (34-20) in the final period. The Corsairs capitalized on the opportunities that Grossmont gave them, which included 16 free throws (12 made).
The Griffins will take on Long Beach City College (5-4) on Thursday (Dec. 8) when they open the Irvine Valley Tournament.
