EL CAJON (12-2-16) — Despite an off shooting night by ace MARISSA GILES, the Patriots slipped past St. Joseph Academy 37-31 in the Calvin Christian Fastbreak Tournament.
Giles led the Patriots with 14 points including hitting a pair of treys and 6 of 9 free throws.
JASMYN CRAWFORD added 8 points and 4 rebounds, while BROOKE OWENS dropped in a pair of threes and finished with 7 points.
Christian: Marissa Giles 14 (3 reb, 1 stl), Jasmyn Crawford 8 (4 reb, 1 stl), Brooke Owens 7, Hayley Robinson 4 (5 reb), Sage Salacup 4 (2 stl), Cipriana Hudson (5 reb).
WEST HILLS 46, UNIVERSITY CITY 28 – CARLY RALEY provided the spark for the Wolf Pack with 22 points, 15 coming in the first half of a 46-28 victory over University City.
“Offensively we started well,” said Wolf Pack coach RYAN KINSER. “Raley had 15 in the first quarter. We missed a lot of easy shots in the second and stalled offensively.
“We played well defensively all night holding their top scorer to 7.
KERRIE DANIELS pumped in 14 points for the Pack.
“We had a sloppy second half but we walked away with a win,” Kinser said. “I like the way the post are playing in our first two games.”
Post players are Raley (5-10), Daniels (5-11), and freshman SARAH MOYER (5-11),
West Hills: Carly Raley 22, Kerrie Daniels 14, Vivian Panela 6, Jessica Fondes-Ryan 2, Sarah Moyer 2.
BRADSHAW CHRISTIAN 56, HELIX 53 – Helix had a couple of chances to tie the game in the final moments, but fell short in their game of catchup with Bradshaw Christian, of Sacramento, at the La Jolla Country Day Sweet 16 Tournament.
TALIAH HOOKER had 19 points, as her baseline floater with just over a minute and a half to go in the third quarter brought Helix to within 42-37.
CAM OWENS scored 15 points for Helix. Her driving basket past a defender and off the glass with two and half minutes remaining in the third quarter pulled Helix to within 42-35.
SAN MARCOS 40, GRANITE HILLS 23 – No further information reported for this Excalibur Tournament game.
