Four Griffins named first team all-league

EL CAJON (11-24-16) — All-National Southern Conference 2016 Postseason Awards have been announced. Grossmont College, in the National Division, Southern League, landed four first team berths and four second team spots.

Grossmont freshman Brad Cagle

On first team offense quarterback BRAD CAGLE was selected, as was wide receiver ADRIAN TOLBERT.

Cagle, a freshman, threw for 2,058 yards and 19 touchdowns this past season, despite missing time due to injury.

Tolbert caught 42 passes for 863 yards and 14 scores, which led Southern California. He was second in average yards per catch at 20.5 .

On the defensive side, Grossmont first team picks included defensive back JORDAN ELLIS and linebacker RYDEN KERR.

Ellis was second in Southern California with nine interceptions this season. He also had 21 tackles, three pass break ups and a fumble recover.

Kerr had 56 tackles to lead Grossmont this season, including 9 1/2 for loss and a sack.

Named to the second team offense were wide receiver JABRIL CLEWIS and offensive lineman EVAN PUMPHREY.

Also garnering second team offense honors was NEHEMIAH BROWN, Grossmont leading rusher this season with 459 yards.

Grossmont sophomore RYDEN KERR

Awarded second team defensive honors were defensive tackle LANCE LEOTA and defensive lineman QUANTARIUS BOONE.

The conference Offensive Player of the Year was Jordan Hoy, the Fullerton freshman quarterback, while the defensive Player of the Year was Justin Parcells, a Fullerton freshman inside linebacker.

The Co-Coaches of the Year were Tim Byrnes, of Fullerton, and Mark McElroy, of Saddleback.
