Bailey grips decisive touchdown in EMU win

EL CAJON (10-03-16) — Wide receiver SERGIO BAILEY, a product of Grossmont College, is making waves at Eastern Michigan University.

 

The 6-foot-1, 186-pound junior made a highlight reel catch for a 40-yard touchdown in a 28-25 victory over Bowling Green. Bailey caught 4 passes for 71 yards in the game.

Five-foot-9, 213-pound sophomore running back NOAH YLAGAN (West Hills) had 22 carries for 132 yards as the Briar Cliff University Chargers lost to Dordt College 38-10 in Sioux City, Iowa. Ylagan also kicked a 29-yard field goal and booted 3 kickoffs, one for a touchback.

Six-foot-5 junior wide receiver TIM PATRICK (Grossmont College) caught 4 passes for 44 yards but it wasn’t enough as Utah lost to Cal 28-23.

Junior wide receiver VIRNEL MOON (El Cajon Valley) of Colorado Mesa University hauled in 3 passes for 72 yards to lead the Mavericks over Colorado State University-Pueblo 20-19.

USC quarterback ANTHONY LAWRENCE (Grossmont HS) completed 23 of 33 for 326 yards and one touchdown as the Toreros trampled Butler 44-10 in Indianapolis. For the season Lawrence has passed for 1050 yards and 6 touchdowns. The sophomore’s career totals include 3443 yards and 29 touchdowns.

Five-foot-11, 225 sophomore linebacker JABRION BURNSIDE racked up 5 tackles, while six-foot, 225-pound linebacker teammate WILLIE FAIR (Steele Canyon) had 5 tackles as Azusa Pacific beat Western Oregon 31-2.

Five-foot-8, 170-pound senior defensive back RAYVON OWENS (Christian HS) made 5 tackles, forced a fumble and returned 3 kickoffs for 60 yards as the Bearcats punched Puget Sound 63-24.

Gardner-Webb junior safety SPENCER HAVIRD (Valhalla) enters his third year as a starter in the secondary, is an All-Big South Conference candidate at safety. He’s a physical tackler with a knack for finding the football. Has started 23 games in two seasons with 117 career tackles and 15 pass break ups.

Senior linebacker MAURICE PAYNE chalked up 4 tackles, 2 of them solo as Tabor College smothered Sterling College 45-42.

Colorado running back MICHAEL ADKINS (Helix) rumbled for 31 yards on 7 carries and a touchdown as the Buffaloes buried Oregon State 47-6.

Versatile SETH COLLINS (Granite Hills) caught 5 catches for 56 yards for Oregon State in the losing cause.

Senior defensive end GARY MARSHALL (Helix) recorded one solo tackle as Marshall lost to Pittsburgh 43-27.

UNLV linebacker KENNY KEYS (Helix) rolled up 3 tackles in a 45-20 loss to Fresno State.

Humboldt State wide receiver NICK SEXTON (Christian HS) caught 5 passes for 45 yards as the Lumberjacks beat Chadron State 31-27.

Marist College junior wide receiver LAWRENCE DICKENS (Steele Canyon) collected 53 all-purpose yards including one kickoff return for 30 as the Red Foxes clipped Campbell 24-7. He also rushed for 23 yards on 3 carries.

Hastings sophomore wide receiver JORDAN JOHNSON (Steele Canyon) made a major impact by pulling in 4 catches for 119 yards, including an 82-yard touchdown strike in the loss to Northwestern.

Hastings freshman running back ADRIAN PETTY (Christian HS) rushed for 46 yards on 7 carries as the Broncos lost to Northwestern College 48-16. He also had a kickoff return in the setback.

Deep threat wide receiver ANTHONY JACKSON (El Cajon Valley/Grossmont College) caught a 26-yard touchdown on the opening play as Bethany College lost to Carnegie Mellon 49-26.

Four East County football players are leaving their footprints at Dixie State University in Saint George, Utah.

Freshman defensive back MIKE JONES (Mount Miguel) racked up 4 tackles, 3 of them solos as the Trailblazers beat Western State 28-20.

Senior defensive lineman MALCOLM JACKSON (Mount Miguel) logged 3 tackles in the game.

Freshman defensive back ALEX LILLIARD (Grossmont HS) had 3 tackles also in this game.

On the offensive side of the Dixie State lineup TAJ BROOMFIELD (West Hills) caught 2 passes for 15 yards in the Western State victory.

Heavily recruited freshman wide receiver KHALEED DAVIS, who was recruited by more than a dozen colleges, caught one pass for 4 yards in his collegiate debut.
