SAN DIEGO – In a game that was no contest from the outset, as visiting Steele Canyon played a game of catch-up that left them a few yards short in Friday night’s (Sept. 2) encounter.
It was virtually a mismatch that left the Cougars a bevy of yards short and now 0-2 in the young season after a 42-7 loss at defensively stout Madison.

Steele Canyon avoided the shutout early when quarterback THOMAS FISHBURNE fired a 25-yard scoring pass to JACOB JONES.
The ball was actually intended for MIKEL OLIVER, who stuck a big hand in the air to deflect it and it was caught behind Oliver in stride for the continuation score, as he gathered the ball in a covered the final 10 yards to paydirt.
JOHN LAUTNER kicked the PAT to close the early Madison lead to 14-7 and give Steele Canyon early hope of a fighting chance.
Seventeen players contributed to the defense, including leading tackler JHAELON BRAZILE who logged 6 tackles.
Fishburne finished 7 for 19 for 63 yards and one touchdown.
Oliver caught three passes for 25 yards.
ISAIAH THOMPSON led the Cougars running attack with 47 yards on a dozen carries.
“We never put our heads down despite falling behind,” said Steele Canyon coach SCOTT LONGERBONE.

Junior JON MARTINEZ recovered a fumble for the Cougars at their own 3 when it looked like Madison was headed in for an even early first-quarter score on the opening drive.
The Cougars were three-and-out, punting from their own 9, which set up a short field and a Warhawks touchdown on a pass from Terrell Carter to Daniel Stokes.
Carter threw for five touchdowns for the Warhawks, including three to Brandon Lewis.
CALEB O’GORMAN recovered a turnover in the first quarter after a bizarre play that saw the Madison quarterback have a pass or fumble come out of his hands and into the hands of O’Gorman after it was loose in the air.
COLTON LARCEVAL and Martinez pressured Carter into the error.
