Norsemen softball goes ‘bottoms-up’

2025 EAST COUNTY PREP SOFTBALL

VALHALLA 5, GROSSMONT 3 – Despite being out hit 9-5 the Valhalla Norsemen came away with the tournament victory over Grossmont thanks to the bottom portion of the lineup on Saturday.
The Norsemen bottom part of the lineup consisting of Valerie Damian, Lily Moscoso, and Lily Avarado combined for four of the team’s five hits in the victory. Not only did they lead in hits but they would also score three runs and drive in one.
Early on the Foothillers would lead 1-0 thanks to Carleigh Wenck who singled to center in which the ball was misplayed allowing Nakhia Lee to come around and score.
The lead wouldn’t last as Valhalla behind a Natalia Marco RBI single would even the score 1-1.
They would tack on a pair of runs in the bottom of the second thanks to a wild pitch that allowed Moscoso to race home and Emma Sloan’s ground out that allowed Damian to plate.
Devyn Mack who took the circle for the Norsemen picked up the win as she allowed three runs (two earned) on nine hits over seven innings while walking none and striking out six.
Saraya Roope for Grossmont would take the loss as she allowed five runs (three earned) on five hits over six innings in which she walked six and struck out four.
Both Lee and Wenck for Grossmont both had a pair of hits while Heidi Villa and Lee each drove in a run.
Valhalla with the win moves to 7-11 overall while Grossmont falls to 5-11-1.
MIRA MESA 4, WEST HILLS 3 – Despite a pair of late runs and doubling up in the hitting category the West Hills Wolf Pack fell short against the visiting Mira Mesa Marauders in tournament action on Saturday.
West Hills would early on take a 1-0 lead thanks to Maddie Aylesbury who roped a two out double to center field that brought home Raelyn Gagnon who came in as a courtesy runner for Katy Spargo who doubled in her at-bat.
But the momentum was short lived as Mira Mesa would push across two runs in the top of the second inning to take a 2-1 lead.
Mira Mesa would add two more runs in the top of the fifth inning to extend their lead to 4-1.
However, the Pack in the bottom of the sixth inning would string some momentum as Lili Leija hit a ball to right field that was deep enough for Gagnon to tag up and race home which was followed by another sacrifice fly this time by Haylee Kai that was deep enough for Aylesbury to plate and pull the Pack within 4-3.
Brooklyn Haug would retire the rest of the way and pick up the win as she wet all seven innings in which she allowed three runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out four.
Ava Goodman who took the circle for the Pack took the loss as she allowed four runs on four hits over seven innings while walking four and striking out eight.
West Hills falls to 11-7-1 overall with the loss.
TORREY PINES 7, GRANITE HILLS 5 – Driving in four runs which included three hits of which one was a homerun Peyton Well’s day wasn’t enough as the Torrey Pines Falcons came away with the Falcon Fiesta victory on Saturday.
Wells would give the Eagles a 1-0 lead thanks to an RBI single in the top of the first inning and a couple of innings later would blast a three-run shot over the left field fence to give them a 4-0 lead.
However, in the bottom of the inning everything would fall apart for the Eagles as Torrey Pines would manage thanks to multiple hits in the inning to tie the game at 4-4 as they pushed across four runs in the inning. They would add another pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 6-4 lead.
Granite Hills in the top of the fifth inning would pull within 6-5 thanks to Mia Downes who led off the inning with a solo shot to center field which also was the second home run of the game for the Eagles.
Wells who started the game for the Eagles allowed eight hits and six runs over three and one-third innings, striking out one and walking two.
Granite Hills with the loss falls to 5-11-1 overall.
RANCHO BUENA VISTA 3, STEELE CANYON 1 – With runs hard to come by the Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns took advantage of their opportunities and came away with the Falcon Fiesta victory over Steele Canyon on Saturday.
The Longhorns would scores runs over the first three innings to round out their scoring for the game.
Steele Canyon would manage to score their lone run of the game in the top of the seventh inning when Bailey Evans singled in Belle Will who led off the inning with a triple to right field.
Evans would start the game for the Cougars. On the day she would allow three runs on four hits over three innings in which she walked five, Will who came into the game in relief would toss three innings of no hit ball with no runs while walking one and striking out five.
Ily Barclay would lead the Cougars with two hits and also a pair of stolen bases.
The loss puts the Cougars overall record at 9-9-1.
