SANTEE – Following five innings of a pitchers’ duel, Foothills Christian and The Bishop’s School suddenly changed course.
In a battle of teams nmed Knights, The Bishop’s erupted for six rubs on sifive x extra-base hits in the sixth inning, while Foothills Christian could only counter with two runs, allowing the ballclub from La Jolla take the Coastal League contest, 8-3, from Santee ASA at Town Country Community Park.
After both pitchers survived a difficult first inning, when two walks led to a run for both sides, both offenses struggled.
However, for no particular reason, evryone started gathering hits in the dixth.
Included was two tripls and three doubles by The Bishop’s, starting with a lead triple to deep left field by sophomore third baseman Bailey Brightenburg.
Foothills Christian also connected throughout the ballgame, but at least a half-dozen hard shots turned foul along the left field line, as batters were in front of the pitching by frosh Jessica Yao all afternoon.

The momentum turned in the fourth, when a Foothills Christian runner at third base would’ve scored the go-ahead run, but a diving catch by The Bishop’s center fielder Bella Bravo was good for the third out.
Brightenburg. also converted a sliding garb of a shallow pop fly whil going head-first towatd home plate.
For Foothilld Christian (3-5 overall, 2-4 league), a trop pg batters — center fielder Kenzie Gomez,third baseman Holly Vigil and pitcher Emma Romeka — registered run-scorings singles
Romeka struck out nine TBS batters, but also walked seven. Yao had four Ks, but walked six for “The B’s’ (7-2-1, 2-1).
Liberty Charter 6, San Diego HS 0
ALPINE – LibertyCharfter senior pitcher Leah Urias posted her best performance of the season, limitingvisiting San Diego HS to just six hits in the Lions’ first vicvtory of the season in a 6-0 deicision.
Urias struck out nine Cavers batters without issuing a walk, as San Diego never placed a runner beyond second base.
The Lions 1-6) stakes Urias to a 2-0 cushion in the first inning, then continued to increase the lead
The standout on offense was Layla Montgomery, .who generate three hits, including a pair of doubles. She also posted an RBI and scored a run.
Meanwhile,sophomore Kady McHenry regisered a pair of RBI singles. Freshman Annika Olsen also had a pair of basehits.
For San Diego (7-9), which saw a 3-game wining streak snapped, receivedf two hits (including a double) from Diana Martinez.
The Lions will e the final East County school to open league playing, not starting Summit League cimpeitition untilA[r. 17. In the meantime, there will be non-leagye ballgames with Canyon Crest and San Diego Academy of National City
