WEST HILLS 11, BRAWLEY 4 – West Hills junior Katy Spargo (2-4, R, 4 RBI, HR) so far this season is having one of the best seasons in recent memory in East County history continued her terrorizing of opponents pitching on Saturday afternoon as she drove in four runs which included a three-run home run to power the Wolf Pack to a tournament victory over Brawley.
Spargo’s day included etching her name in the West Hills record book as she became the schools career leader in multiple categories for both RBI’s and home runs.
Before the record breaking moments occurred Brawley who traveled a long way from the valley would actually lead early on 1-0 in the top of the first inning. However, the momentum was short lived as Maddie Aylesbury (2-4, R, RBI) would tie game up with an RBI single down the line in the bottom of the inning.
A couple of innings later Brawley would retake the lead with a run and would tack on another pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning to lead 4-1.
Trailing by three runs the Wolf Pack didn’t panic as they would scratch a run across in the bottom of the fifth inning thanks to Spargo who with two outs would drive in Kiara Rabaya (1-2, 3 R, RBI, SB) to cut the deficit in half at 4-2.
Still trailing the offense for West Hills came alive in the bottom of the sixth inning as they scored nine runs to claim a 11-4 lead.
Starting the rally for the Pack was Haylee Kai (1-2, RBI) who drove in Sophia Zayac (2-2, 2 R) who led off the inning with a single, Sofie Jo Grosch (1-1, RBI) would drive in a run to tie the game up 4-4, the next batter Kristina Deal (RBI) would hit a sacrifice fly to center field that was deep enough for Gianna Burgin 1-3, R, RBI) to tag up from third and race home to give the Pack their first lead of the day 5-4, Rabaya followed up with an RBI single via a bunt bringing in Amber Foley who raced home to make it 6-4, the very next batter Spargo came up and smashed a line drive home run over the center field wall to extend the lead to 9-4, after a pair of singles by Maddy Aylesbury and Zayac the next batter Ava Goodman drove in Aylesbury which was followed by a fielder’s choice by Burgin that allowed Zayac to come into score rounding out the scoring.
Spargo with her three run blast over the center field fence of which was her seventeenth of her career would break the old mark of sixteen hit by Courtney Horne from 2011-14. On the home run Spargo also broke the all-time career RBI record. Spargo after today now has 107 career RBI which breaks the old mark of 105 RBI also previously held by Horne.
Picking up the win for the Wolf Pack was Ava Goodman who went all seven innings in which she allowed four runs (two earned) on four hits while walking three and striking out three.

HELIX 7, CALEXICO 3 – Six runs scored by the Helix Highlanders over the early innings which included Clariss Torres (3-4, 2 R, 3 RBI, 2 2B, SB) driving in three runs and collecting three hits as they claimed the tournament victory over the Bulldogs on the Saturday afternoon.
After trailing 2-0 early the Highlanders took back the momentum in the top of the top of the second inning thanks to a two-run blast by Lillianna Benabdeljalil (1-4, R, 2 RBI, HR) to tie the game at 2-2.
Helix would take the lead and never relinquish it in the top of the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Nikayla Domingo (1-4, R) that allowed Torres to tag up from third base and plate to give them a 3-2 lead.
Only leading by a run the Highlanders would go onto tack on insurance runs in the top of the fourth inning thanks to Torres who doubled to left field bringing in both Lauren Farace (1-3, R) and Naviah Conchas (1-4, R) to make it 5-2, a couple of batters later with two outs Domingo drove in Torres to make it 6-2. They would tack on another run in the top of the sixth inning which rounded out their scoring for the day.
