CHULA VISTA – Grossmont College completed a 3-game series sweep of Southwestern, surpassing the Jaguars for secxond place in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference. In capturing their 20th victory of the season, the Griffins now rest just 1.5 games behind front-running Palomar… Relief pitcher Issac Cota went 5.1 frames, alloeing just one earned run to gain the win, as GC pitching struck out nine Jags batters… 2B Nico Newhand stroked a 2-run single, when the Griffins scored four times in the 3rd to overcome a 1-0 deifict… LF Noah Tenbrook registered two hits; 2B Noah Manasan scored twice. Next week, GC meets Imperial Valley, starting Tuesday at home.

FLETCHER HILLS – The Grossmont College Griffins moved into  a second-place deadlock with Southwestern following their second straight victory o ver the Jaguars, taking a 5-2 deicision Thursday at Noel Mickelson Field… Pitcher Trevor Morgan posted his finest stint in relief all season, going the final 6/2 innngs to collect the victory, allowing just one run on five hits… The Grossmont offense was supplied by the bottom half of the batting order, inckuding three RBI by catcher Anthony Thomas, the No. 9 hitter, with a career-best three RBI. Included was a go-ahead solo homer in the 5th inning, then a 2-run shot in his next at-bat in the 6th.

CHULA VISTA – Grossmont College mounted a 9-0 lead, then posted six additional runs in the 7th inning to make it 15-0 in a pounding of the host Jaguars… Griffins pitcher Johnny Nuanez fired 6.1 innings of shutout ball, allowing a mere four hits in his seven frames. He was also backed by a double play… On offense, try five extra-base hits among the team total of 18, featuring a home run by M.J. Sweeney, who collected five RBI, including a 3-run shot in the third for a 5-0 lead… Triples: Jacob Embleton and Noah Manasan; Doubles: Nico Newhan, and Manasan… Meanwhile, SD Mesa won at first-place Palomar, to really tighten the PCAC standings: Palomar 11-3, Southwestern 10-4,  Grossmont 9-5,  SD Mesa 806.

FLETCHER HILLS – Grossmont College infielder Katelynne Parent slugged a solo home run, pasrt of a 13-hit attack, as the Griffins salvaged a split of a re-scheduled double-header from the East Los Angeles Huskies. For Parent, the second baseman, the homer to center field was her  first of the season for the product of Grossmont High… The first four hitters for Grossmont went a composite 7-for-14, including two hits by Mariah Mata, Kate Manes and Kaitlyn Ours… Meanwhile, Gracie Johnston tossed a 4-hitter to garner the victory.
