Foothills Christian deep in Coastal race

Foothills Christian 8, Tri-City Christian 1

LAKESIDE – In a Foothills Christian (7-5) raced to its fourth straight victory by taking down Tri-City of North County, 8-1, in a Pacific League ballgame Friday (Mar. 28) at Matt LaChappa Field.

The Knights maintain second place behind front-running Escondido Charter, thanks to a five-run rally in the second inning to mount a 6-0 cushion.

Knights pitcher “Captain” Jack Morgan was the day’s standout, both on the mound and with the bat.

On offense, Morgan equeled a career high with four RBI, matching the mark her set against Castle Parklast season. Included was a three-run triple to open the scoring in the second inning.

On the mound, the junior right-hander yielded just two hits over five innings, striking out nine Eagles batters.

Meanwhile, Knights left fielder Johannes Jansen Granillo, rgw wd-off hitter, belted a triple and scored twice in the contest.

In addition, sophomore center fielder Trevor Cochrum stole four bases. School coaches are checking, but it si believed the thefts tied a Foothills Christian school record.


Borrego Springs 9, Bonsall 3

BORREGO SPRINGS – The Rams (4-2) won for the fourth time in their last five outings after downing the Bonsall Legionnaires (2-5) from North County.

No highlights were reported.

 

Otay Ranch 6, Ramona 5 (walk-off)

OTAY – The Ramona Bulldogs tied this contest with a two-out rally in the seventh inning, but the Otay Ranch Mustangs answered with a walk-off run in the home half of the frame to claim Friday’s (Mar 28) decision, 6-5.

Otay Ranch (7-3) scored five times in the third for a 5-2 cushion, then the bullpne of Ramona (3-4) shut the door over the next 3.2 frames until an unearned run was the deciding factor in s failed to properly cover an intentional rundown by the Mustangs.

For Ramona, outfielder Connor Schwettmann belted an RBI tripl to left field with two down, scoring pinch-runner Matt Parker to knot the contest in the seventh.

Meanwhile, Justin Jarrett and Derek Taylor each had two hits. Jarretr began the final Dawgs raly with a one-out basehit.

For the Mustangs, Carlos Martinez drove in two runs with two hits and scoring once.

The trio of Ramona relief pitchers that did not allow an earned run were akob Coxen, Noah Bedia and Curtis Rierucki.
