SANTANA 7, MIRA MESA 0 – Five runs scored in the bottom of the sixth inning was more than enough as the Santana Sultans claimed a non-league contest against Mira Mesa on Monday afternoon.
One of the big contributors in the five run outburst for the Sultans was Delaney Smith (1-2, R, 3 RBI, SB, HR) who cranked a three-run blast deep over the center field fence to round out the scoring.
Prior to their big sixth inning Santana would score the first runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning thanks to Emma Schneider (1-3, R, RBI, 2B) who ripped an RBI double to left field, and McKenna Miller (3-3, R, RBI, 3 SB) who singled in a run to lead 2-0.
Pitching wise for the Sultans Ashlyn Darrow limited the Mira Mesa Marauders to only 3 hits on the day over five innings of work as she picked up the win while also striking out four. Brianna Zuckerman tossed two innings giving up no runs on no hits while walking two and striking out one.
Santana in the game outhit Mira Mesa by a tally of 10-3 which included Vanessa Ryan who went 2-for-3 and scored a run.
This is the second victory by the Sultans over Mira Mesa this season. Earlier in the season opener the Sultans defeated the Marauders by a score of 10-0.
With the win the Sultans now have won three in a row and improve to 7-3 on the season.
CATHEDRAL CATHOLIC 3, VALHALLA 1 – Sophia Clark of the Cathedral Catholic Dons struck out 11 Norsemen to help push the Dons to the Mater Dei Invitational victory on Monday afternoon.
Despite tallying 8 hits on the day the Valhalla Norsemen only managed to push one run across that came in the bottom of the fifth inning when Natalia Marco drove in Preslee Fink to pull within 2-1.
Cathedral Catholic would add an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning.
Devyn Mack took the circle for the Norsemen. On the day she allowed three runs (one earned) on nine hits over seven innings in which she walked one and struck out one.
Both Fink and Marco collected a pair of hits on the day for Valhalla.
Valhalla falls to 5-6 overall on the season with the loss.
RANCHO BUENA VISTA 6, GRANITE HILLS 0 – Four runs scored in the bottom of the third was more than enough as the RBV Longhorns claimed the Mater Dei Invitational contest on Monday afternoon over the Granite Hills Eagles.
Longhorns pitching stymied the Eagles offense limiting them to one hit courtesy of Taylor Nash.
Granite Hills falls to 2-9-1 on the season.
